Rows wrong or missing?
Send us the shape of this statement, not its contents. The report below is made in this browser. It keeps where text sits, dates and column headings. Every name, amount, reference and account number is replaced with x and 1, as you can see. Nothing is sent until you send it.
Then email the report to support@statementtocsv.co.uk and say which bank it is from. We’ll add the layout and let you know.

Works with text PDFs that have Date, Description, Paid in / Paid out (or Amount) and Balance columns. Scanned or photographed statements are not supported yet. The samples are fictional test data.
HSBC statements turn into a particularly useful spreadsheet, because the payment-type code at the start of each description tells you what kind of transaction it was. Once the statement is in Excel, you can filter on those codes to list every direct debit or every card payment in seconds.
HSBC’s own download, or the PDF statement?
HSBC online banking can also let you download recent transactions as a file. That is handy for the last few months, but it is a different thing from your statements: it covers a limited recent period and isn’t laid out like the statement. If you need the exact figures from past statements, for an accountant, a lender or a tax return, converting the PDF statements gives you the same rows and balances as the official documents.

Working with HSBC transactions in Excel
- List your direct debits. Filter the Description column with “Begins with” DD to see every direct debit, then remove duplicates on the payee to get your list of regular payments.
- Fill in the daily balances. If you want a balance on every row, add a column with
=previous balance + Paid in − Paid out. It will match HSBC’s printed balance at the end of each day. - Separate card spending. Card payments usually start with VIS or the contactless symbol. Filter on them to total card spending for a month.
Support status: tested
We have converted real HSBC statements and checked every row against their printed balances. Banks change their statement designs from time to time, so each conversion is still checked: if a future HSBC layout doesn’t read correctly, the balance check will show it.
StatementToCSV is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by HSBC. The name is used only to describe the statements the converter reads.
