UK bank statements we convert

StatementToCSV reads statements by their columns rather than with a template for each bank. Here is exactly how far each bank has been tested.

Tested and beta, explained

Tested means we have converted real statements from that bank and every row reconciled to the statement’s own balances. Today that is HSBC, NatWest and Starling.

Beta means we haven’t yet tested a real statement from that bank. Because the converter works from column headings (date, description, paid in, paid out, balance) rather than a fixed template, some beta statements may convert already. Every conversion is checked against the statement’s running balance: Verified means every extracted row adds up to the balances printed on the statement.

Your bank isn’t listed?

Try it anyway. If your statement has a date, a description, money in and out (or a single amount) and a balance, there’s a good chance it converts, and the balance check shows whether it did. If it doesn’t, click Help us support this layout in the converter. That creates a layout report in your browser with every name, amount and account number replaced, which you can email to [email protected].

How a bank becomes “tested”

We need real statements, not templates or look-alikes found online (some of those were made in Word or Excel, and one we checked had been edited in an online PDF tool). When a bank’s real statements have been converted and reconciled, its status changes here and the change is posted on the updates page.

Bank groups

Some brands share a banking group: Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland; NatWest, RBS, Coutts and Mettle; HSBC and first direct. Their statements can look alike, but each brand is listed as tested only once its own statements have been checked.

StatementToCSV is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any bank. Bank names are used only to describe the statements the converter reads.

Questions people ask

Does StatementToCSV need a template for my bank?

No. It finds the columns from the statement’s own headings and the position of the text, so it isn’t limited to a list of banks. The bank pages describe how far each bank has been tested.

How will I know if a beta bank converted correctly?

The balance check. If the result says “Verified”, every row reconciles to the printed balances and the totals reach the closing balance exactly.

Can you add my bank?

Usually, yes. Send a layout report from the converter. It shows the layout without any of your details.

Are you connected to any of these banks?

No. StatementToCSV only reads PDF files you choose. It never connects to a bank account and isn’t affiliated with any bank.
