Bank statements for year-end accounts
For a limited company, sole trader or charity, the year-end accounts start with one question: do we have every bank transaction for the period, exactly once?

Rows wrong or missing?
Send us the shape of this statement, not its contents. The report below is made in this browser. It keeps where text sits, dates and column headings. Every name, amount, reference and account number is replaced with x and 1, as you can see. Nothing is sent until you send it.
Then email the report to support@statementtocsv.co.uk and say which bank it is from. We’ll add the layout and let you know.

Works with text PDFs that have Date, Description, Paid in / Paid out (or Amount) and Balance columns. Scanned or photographed statements are not supported yet. The samples are fictional test data.
The accounting period, not the calendar
A company’s accounting period can end in any month. Collect statements that cover the whole period, which often means a statement at each end that straddles the period start or end date. The year-end bank balance in the accounts must be the balance at the close of the last day of the period; if the last statement runs past that date, use the running balance on the period end date.
A checklist for a complete set
- Every account the business holds, including savings, deposit and credit card accounts
- Statements covering every day of the period, with no gaps
- Each statement’s opening balance equal to the previous closing balance
- No duplicate statements and no double-counted interim statements
- Every statement internally consistent: rows add up to the printed balances
- Year-end balance agreed to the statement, or to a bank letter for audit
The whole-year check in the converter above ticks most of these off at once, and lists anything that needs a closer look.
From the checked set into the books
Once the set is complete, download the combined CSV for a spreadsheet, or the Xero or QuickBooks CSV to import. If the books already have a bank feed for part of the year, import only the uncovered months. See accounting imports.
When a client sends statements
Statements from clients arrive in every form: renamed, duplicated, missing a month, sometimes edited. The whole-year check reads each statement’s own dates and balances, so it doesn’t matter what the files are called. It also flags statements that show signs of editing, such as figures typed over the original, which is worth knowing before you rely on them.
Charities and clubs
Treasurers preparing a receipts and payments account for an independent examiner need the same thing: a complete, checked year. The combined CSV, with a category column added, becomes the receipts and payments summary.
Why the files never leave your computer
Client statements carry personal data. Because StatementToCSV reads them in your browser and never uploads them, using it doesn’t add another company to the list of people who hold your clients’ data.
Questions people ask
What if the last statement runs past the year end?
Use the running balance on the period end date for the accounts, and include only transactions up to that date.
Do I need statements for savings accounts?
Yes, for every account the business holds, so the balance sheet includes all cash at the year end.
Can it handle a client’s statements from several accounts in one folder?
Yes. Statements are separated by account and checked one account at a time.
Does it work for charity accounts?
Yes. Any account with statement PDFs can be checked and combined.
